Suzanne Smith Shortlisted for European Award

Suzanne Smith has been selected as a finalist in The European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards

Retford based STEM Ambassador and multiple business owner Suzanne Smith CEng MCIBSE, has today been selected as a finalist in the 2017 European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards, a week after winning Business Woman of The Year at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Enterprising Women Awards.

The theme of this year's awards is "Breaking Down Barriers and Building New heights". Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9 per cent of UK engineering professionals are women.

About her nomination, Suzanne said 'I am delighted to have been selected as a finalist and I am looking forward to the judging day next month. I love working in construction and hope these awards will inspire other women to join me'.  

Suzanne Smith is the co-owner of Sherwood Knowledge Limited and Soteria Asbestos Limited . She is a Polar Ambassador, a STEM Ambassador and a keen fundraiser for The British Lung Foundation.

Suzanne Smith, Director of Sherwood Knowledge Limited and Soteria Asbestos Limited , won the award at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Enterprising Women Awards in Nottingham on 3rd March 2017

Suzanne commented ' Wow...It's not very often I'm lost for words but I was totally shocked. I'm over the moon to have won Business Woman of the Year at the East Midlands Chamber Enterprising Women Awards. My category was very strong with some amazing ladies who all deserved to be winners. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years...it really does mean a great deal'

Soteria support women in business by sponsoring local awards


Soteria Asbestos are keen to support women in business and confirmed that commitment by sponsoring the Women in Tech Category at the North Notts Women in Business Awards. 

Suzanne commented “Soteria Asbestos sponsored the awards to celebrate the achievements of the amazing business women in our local area. 

We want to show our support and recognise the crucial role business women play in both our community and economy.” 

Suzanne was also a judge at the awards and said “the quality of entries was extremely high and it was fantastic to read the inspirational stories of women in business.”

Suzanne Smith has reached the finals of the East Midlands Chamber Awards in the Nottinghamshire Entrepreneur of the Year category. 

Suzanne is hoping that she will be selected as the winner of this prestigious award at the glittering ceremony in September.

Suzanne was invited to be a guest speaker at the Open University’s first National Women in Engineering Day in June 2016. Suzanne was delighted to present to current female engineering students and said:
“I feel privileged to be in a position where sharing my career journey can inspire and encourage aspiring students”. 

Director of Learning and Teaching at the University, Carol Morris, commented : “The feedback we had from the students was overwhelmingly positive and many of them singled out Suzanne’s presentation as a highlight”

In May 2015 Soteria Asbestos won Twitter competition #SBS (Small Business Sunday). 

In February 2016 the team were presented with their winner’s certificate by Theo himself.
